About this place:

This venue has long been the favoured haunt of just about all, top South African bands playing in Cape Town. Mercury is actually divided into Lounge, which is downstairs and hosts smaller parties and bashes during the week and the upstairs section – Mercury Live, which boasts one of the best sound systems for live performances in CT and an amazing lighting set up.

The stage area upstairs is a lot larger than most in CT and the actual standing room is spacious, so it takes a large crowd to fill up. Being one of the premium live music venues in Cape Town it has also attracted top class sound engineers who really know their stuff. I can’t ever remember being at show at Mercury Live were the sound has sucked.

Both Live and Lounge have their own bars, although I have to say that on a really busy night or the Manic Monday drink specials nights, the service tends to be a bit lacking. But hey, that’s to be expected at most venues under the same conditions.

All in all most shows held at Mercury Live have been of a very high standard with many of SA’s top acts choosing this venue for album launches and similar events.
