The Watermark High started out as Paul van der Walt’s acoustic solo/side-project when he was still fronting well-known Pretoria punk band, Pet Flyz, back in 2003.

In December of that year, Paul independently released his debut, Watermark High EP entitled “(What) Are You Thinking?”. This now out of print release comprised 6 straight-forward acoustic songs with minor programming. The release led to Paul playing a number of promotional solo shows in Cape Town and Pretoria.

After a split CD with Leek, two influential albums (1999’s “Here Goes Everything” and 2001’s “Motive For Breathing”), multiple local and international compilations and various national festival appearances and touring, Pet Flyz broke up at the end of 2003. In 2004, Paul went on to form post-hardcore band, Cannon To A Whisper with two fellow ex-Pet Flyz members. Cannon To A Whisper disbanded a year later, after releasing their self-titled EP and touring South Africa and the UK (with the likes of Million Dead and Enter Shikari).

Upon Paul’s return to South Africa in 2005, after living in the UK for most of that year, he formed the electronic hardcore band, Andre van der Walt (which is still active today) and an atmospheric indie rock band called Convalescent (which disbanded in early 2007). The Watermark High saw a brief re-emergence in December 2006, with the release of a new demo on Myspace entitled “To Exist In This World, But Not Live It”.

2007 saw a lot of procrastination, writing and planning for a new, proper live band version of The Watermark High, with a completely new approach and sound compared to the project’s beginnings. This brings us to the present.

The Watermark High’s new 4 song EP, “Disappear With Me” was released in May 2008 and is available for FREE download from: http://www.thewatermarkhigh.co.za
