Directed & Choreographed by ADELE BLANK
After an acclaimed season at the Green Point Stadium Visitors Centre in July, the newly established InSPIRAtions Dance Company under the auspices of Dance for All, will present the sassy COTTON CLUB MOVES at On Broadway from 11th August 2009.
The production is set in the Cotton Club era and is choreographed and directed by Adele Blank. It features the InSPIRAtions company members in various dance styles with guest artiste Amos ‘Lollicat’ Kitlele, formerly from Blank’s Free Flight Dance Company, who will also provide the vocal element of the show.
The Cotton Club was a famous nightclub in New York City that operated between the 20s and 40s. Whilst the chic club featured many of the greatest African American entertainers of the era, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie and Nat King Cole, it also served as a chic meeting spot in the heart of Harlem, at which celebrities such as Mae West and Irving Berlin would appear. The music for COTTON CLUB MOVES is by George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Duke Ellington amongst others.
