An Original South African Country and Western Cabaret
Nothing like a ripped and rugged cowboy to get a girl (or boy) ready to saddle up and ride! So grab your Stetson, and your posse and keep your eyes peeled for the next unmissable show of ANGELS ON HORSEBACK. Gorgeously costumed by HIP HOP, it means these cowgirls never get the blues, or is that because of their handsome backing band? After some serious thigh slappin’ this funky, funny, fabulous cabaret with a country twang, will leave you with toes a’tappin’ as you ride on off into the sunset! Yeehaa!

Karen Rutter of the Cape Times had a Q&A session with the girls and here’s a taste of what was said:

Tell us, in your own words, what’s Angels on Horseback all about?
Candice: Angels on Horseback is an original South African country and western cabaret and it is really just an excuse for us to have a jol, and in so doing give the audience a damn good time too! We sing about issues everyone has experienced, but this is no tear-jerker musical, oh no. We may have (slightly) sad lives but on stage it all becomes a funky, boot-scootin’ song and dance. And if you come dressed the part we may even sit on your lap!

What made you think of combining country with contemporary South African commentary?
Fiona: Country music has a bad rep, but in truth, it’s the most fun to sing, and lends itself naturally to a spot of irony. As for SA commentary, we just sing about what we know and our own take on the country and this strange but magnificent city of Cape Town that we live in!
Candice: And our men troubles. We’ve had a lot of those!

Is it true that if you play a country CD backwards, you get your farm and your wife back, and your dog comes to life?
Fiona: We ‘re in Africa, once your farm goes, its over.
Candice: In our case, the man you met at a bar calls the next day and you lick whipped cream off Ryk Neethling’s abs!

Dolly Parton, Patsy Kline, or k.d.lang – who’s the queen of country?
Fiona: Billy Ray Cyrus
Candice: Come on, Dolly deserves a crown for being the oldest Country Barbie in existence!
