Administratiewe beleidsaspekte van die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisie (1913-1983)

Abstract :

The purpose of this study is to establish how administrative policy is formulated in the South African police and whether or not it is adapted to changing circumstances. Concerning the last aspect, cognisance is taken of the factors, institutions and individuals influencing the determination of administrative policy. The South African Police was established on 1 April 1913 and The Police Act, 1958 defines its functions as the maintenance of law and order and the investigation of any offence or alleged offence. Although only administrative policy and organising are mainly described in this dissertation, reference is also made, where applicable, to finance, personnel administration, procedures and the exercise of control. Based on the theoretical framework decided on for this study, it is concluded that the administrative policy of the South African Police is adapted to suit changing circumstances.
